Zen-Like and Irritating

A friend always tells me when I’m being Zen-like and irritating...particularly when, just after yoga class, I seem unable to form a solid opinion about where we should go for beer...wanting simply to flow along with others’ plans like a babbling brook...or something...and I appreciate that.

Meditating, I
become a pain in the ass
to all of my friends

And so I offer up this haiku in small tribute to the long-suffering multitudes who tirelessly put up with pretentious yogis, hippie Buddhists, and other annoyingly cosmic and mellow types.

(...though suspecting that doing so only makes me more Zen-like and irritating...there’s a koan in there somewhere...)

  1. That is truly a koan and it made me smile. Namaste, Doc.

  2. Well I had google Koan to understand the last part. I wonder what that one hand clap does sound like? :)

I meant to ask where the image is from? I love it.

  4. Good one, Jay! I love the title, which pretty much hits it on the head: "Zen-like" can be soooo irritating, as opposed to actual Zen. Of course true Zen can mean you end up getting hit with a stick, moving beyond irritation into pain.
    Beautiful irony there:-)

  8. I know the feeling re doing the Christmas rellies thing with presents. I rang them all and told them I cancelled this Christmas. Was that Zen-Grinch like and irritating enough for you?
Yes, I'm enjoying our summer as we just came out of a long horrid cold/flu winter season (I work with kids, so it was a nightmare).
You get to rub it in by return when it's your summer. Lol!

  9. Yeah, there's nothing more irritating than someone who's calm and clear. It only highlights all my anxieties!

  10. I've been practicing being irritating for over 20 years now but I'm too humble to think of myself as a master - yet.

  12. I forever exhibit symptoms of "zen-like and irritating" to which W can attest. Earth to Holly is no accident... :o(

  17. Nothing makes a tense person angrier than a calm person.
