Floating Glowing Beings of Pure Love

Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh (originally titled Night Filled with Floating Glowing Beings of Pure Love) (would I lie to ya?)

The first word in this song is discorporate.
It means to leave your body.
Frank Zappa

...two days ‘til the yoga retreat...as before any trip, I’m worrying about stuff going wrong...last year, the plane I was supposed to be flying had a cracked window...thanks to a piece of wing breaking off and hitting it on the way up from Miami...had to wait eight hours for another plane to arrive from London...this year I put in a request for Sullenberger, but the airline couldn’t make any guarantees...

...but what about the inherent problems in things potentially going too well? What if I become too enlightened? What if I discorporate completely and end up a Floating Glowing Being of Pure Love?

...yeah, yeah, I know what they say...

Before enlightenment chop wood and carry water.
After enlightenment, chop wood and carry water.
Wu Li

...but ya never know...

...in working with addicts, it should be a bonus...who needs cocaine or heroin when you’ve got a Floating Glowing Being of Pure Love on call?...for dedicated readers of Yoga for Cynics, however, the question will be: can a Floating Glowing Being of Pure Love maintain a blog? Does a Floating Glowing Being of Pure Love have the tangible digits necessary to manipulate a computer keyboard?

...of course, with or without new posts, visiting this blog will be highly beneficial, as it will likely carry kinda the opposite of a virus...all e-mails, tweets, etc. received on affected computers will be filled with kindness, good tidings, and boundless affection....please note, however, that web browsers could have trouble accessing racist, sexist, homophobic, or otherwise hateful or disempowering content...not that they can’t...they just won’t want to...

...then, should I remain in corporeal, generally unenlightened form, never mind....the next post’ll be up by April’s Fool’s day...

Lol! For one so enlightened you sure do worry some. Relax, have a good time and if you should morph into a floating, glowing being of pure love ... we will understand completely and expect to feel very very good blobby vibes when we visit your blog!

"can a Floating Glowing Being of Pure Love maintain a blog, you ask?

Appears not. Even God gave up on his blog after a post in December 2005.....

(Enjoy your retreat.)

Gotta tell ya something. Its a secret, okay?

Sometimes the author of this blog is in fact actually already a Floating Glowing Being of Pure Love!!

But only sometimes... mostly, he doesn't like others to know what a gooey center he has.

Have ya heard? The only difference between an enlightened person and one who isn't, is what they're aware of?

And, anyway, even if you do get to realise your own essential nature, what makes you think you won't wanna write your blog? I'm sure you'll have words of wisdom to share with us all from "on high".

The good thing about your transformation (from my perspective), is that it'll do away with the need for a plane for you to get from over there to over here.

So hurry up already. And have a margarita or two for me, while you're at it ;)

well, dude, if you want to do a yoga retreat on the island of Zanzibar (that's off the coast of Tanzania, Africa in case you are geographically challenged), if things work out, I'm conducting one, March 2010.

I have met creatures who claim such powers. I think I like you better.

But then I meet so few who will chop wood and carry water.

I think once you are a Floating Glowing Being of Pure Love, the answer to whether you can continue blogging will come to you, and you will know it is the right choice.

Okay drjay, I agree with what Svasti said (and she says it so well!) so I'm gonna have to do some wheel-sucking and say, "What she said!" 'cept I'll have a pina colada, please...

I have to admit, Jay--I am definitely jealous of you for your upcoming yoga retreat/vacation--and in the Mexican Caribbean, no less! Of course, enjoy, enjoy.

I love that piece of Van Gogh's--and I really like your renaming of it (but would Vincent approve, Jay? Hmnnnn>?). I always identified and was fascinated with Van Gogh--and believe it or not, there was a time when I wished I had the balls to do something as outrageous/shocking as cut off my ear for the sake of art).

Fortunately, my love for shock value was never that extreme (or painful and disfiguring).

Have a wunnerful, wunnerful time. We shall miss you a lot.

Dear Dr. Glowy Floaty Jay,
Go as far as you can. Go a little further. Have fun. Relax. Come back glowy and refreshed. Who knows?

Have a massage. Then you will be a floating glowing being a pure love!

I used to have a friend, her whole family was super artistic...anyway she took plaster or putty or something and textured her walls to make a copy of Starry Night in her room. It turned out pretty awesome by the time she finished it and painted it.

Of all the artists students learn about- Van Gogh is always the favorite- Starry Night being the piece the connect with the most. I think it's telling...

I had a thought Dr Jay. I know I am being Punny, but here goes. If you meet someone who says they are glowing Floating beings of light, but are instead, Zen-like and irritating, keep shopping.

Once again, you leave me with a peaceful, thoughtful half-smile on my face. Have a wonderful time, Doc.

*LOL* Hope you're having an enlightened time at the retreat. Sorry for my long absence lately...I've just been swamped (pardon the S. Louisiana pun!)

I like your sense of humor but on a serious note, I've long felt the term "enlightenment" is misleading in the sense that it suggests it's a kind of end-state where one can "arrive." While there's a direction, a way, and the possibility of profound change, I don't believe that such an end-state exists.

Example: in rejecting the attempt of some of his followers to deify him, the Buddha said that he continued to struggle with following his own Eightfold Path.

If this is true (and you only write the truth ~ right ? :) "...of course, with or without new posts, visiting this blog will be highly beneficial, as it will likely carry kinda the opposite of a virus...all e-mails, tweets, etc. received on affected computers will be filled with kindness, good tidings, and boundless affection...." I can officially stop worrying about the 200 pictures that my cannibalistic hard drive ate. Thanks, I needed the reassurance ~ I feel better already. :)

First, the lyrics to Don McLean's tribute to Van Gogh's Starry Night get me every time I listen to the song.

Secondly, I hope to make it to and from your Yoga camp is fine form - remember, downward facing dog is alway a fine position to assume if you should have to deal with the airlines.

And, lastly, Chop Wood, Carry Water is an awesome book. I have carried the same copy with me for over 20 years.

Summary: This is one great post!!! Two-thumbs up.
