Meanderings of a Cloud Stalking Moron

I’m set free, to find a new illusion...
Lou Reed

...had a dream a couple nights ago...was in this place kinda like a cross between a yoga retreat and a mental institution...of course, I’ve been on yoga retreats, but not in mental institutions...but it had that institutional look...very clean and orderly...quiet...no incense, Mexican blankets, or electric kirtan music...but also no bars or institutional smells...lots of well tended greenery to be seen through the windows...no bars or anything...and that mellow happy yoga retreat vibe...wanted to call some friends to come and join me, but didn’t know how to contact them from there...and how do you invite people to a yoga mental institution, anyway?

Don't play what's there, play what's not there...
Miles Davis

...was watching Lost In Translation...which I love mostly because the most important line in the movie, spoken by Bill Murray into Scarlett Johannson’s ear, is inaudible....there’s also a major sex scene that never happens...which, I think, makes it one of the more unexpected and interesting sex scenes in recent cinema...

...it’s all about balance, right?...lately, I’ve gotten so many blog awards and kind mentions in other people’s blogs I’ve forgotten to mention them all...thanks for the award, Yogadawg...and Melinda and Holly for the nice words...

...apparently in the interests of maintaining some kind of cosmic symmetry beyond my feeble comprehension, however, in the past few days this blog has been beset with a veritable flurry of negative comments...some attempts at constructive criticism, I think...some not so much...cloud stalking moron would probably fit into the second category...but I kinda liked it, anyway...

I didn't "get" that movie, I'm afraid. Your dream sounds interesting, though. Studies show that dreams are often "negative" in one way or another. This one sounded very positive. I hope it helped buoy you through the day.

Ohhh, I love "Cloud Stalking Moron"... Those who reach below the stars, reach to low.

I think the Miles Davis quote would have gone perfectly with my post yesterday and I am going to incoporate it into my class. It is exactly what I was trying to say! (they prob. would have appreciated the shorter version!)

I never have anything to say after reading these posts, just sit here smiling, I guess like a moron, except there are no clouds to chase here in the office ~ that's a shame now that I think about it, no clouds to chase....

The trolls are part of the internet's way of saying that you've made it as a blogger. Or something like that.

I'd come to your mental institution yoga retreat. It sounds relaxing.

Hi Jay,

First, thanks for the nice acknowledgement--it is appreciated.

I *really* got some interesting visuals on your reference to the cross between a yoga retreat and a mental institution! I loved that.

Lost in Translation is a brilliant movie--in fact, it is one of my all time favorite movies and I own it on DVD.

Great post--this really made me smile.

I love your question "How do you invite people to a yoga mental institution anyway?"

Don't know the answer, but if I were invited, I'd sure as heck want to find out about it. Sounds like a wonderful place!

Having spent time in both mental institutions and yoga retreats, I have to say they bear a lot of similarities (structured, secluded, safe). The food's better in the yoga retreats. However, the beds in the institution are more comfortable.

It always annoyed me that people tried to figure out what the inaudible line is. Isn't that the point?

Hmmm, kinda how I'd imagine a yoga hereafter, drjay...

Would you believe I fell asleep during Lost In Translation? Actually, I do that during a lot of movies, no matter how good, so I really should give it another chance.

And thank you for the mention...again! Too many nice words can't be said of you and your uber blog, drjay.

Trolls: proof that some humans have not yet evolved beyond their reptilian brains. Also a sure sign that you are getting a rather large audience! Thanks for your comments in my sporadic postings lately. It's been good to see your name and read your thoughts during my busy days.
Cheers!

I love cloud stalking moron - when I saw it as the post title I came right over to read :) Sounds like another name for the Fool, and there's nothing negative in that archetype, to me. Keep the focus on the positive - congrats on the kudos!

"Cloud-stalking moron" sounds like the ultimate praise. Comparable to Fool of God and Zen fool. I'm a cloud-watching moron myself.
