At a Table on a Sidewalk

...that there is so much we will never, and maybe can't ever, fathom can be comforting and terrifying, but not, usually, both at the same time...
Ancient and Revered Yoga Cynic Sutra 121:354

...at a table on a sidewalk in front of the Good Karma Cafe...(actual place, 22nd & Pine, downtown Philly, State of Noisy Contemplation, USA)...drinking coffee ’til I’m too wired to sit still...cars and the occasional bike float past...no question which is America’s favorite mode of transportation...then, no question who’s enjoying the ride more, either...

...reading about a woman at a silent vipassana retreat...trying to be silent, peaceful, meditative, and mindful, and not doing such a good job, by her own estimation, at any of the above...makes me wanna give her some encouragement...say at least you’re one up on me...I’m just reading about it...

...borrowed a pen, and actually returned it...which probably makes me prouder than it should...have never consciously stolen a pen, and yet never buy them, but somehow always have lots...am strangely unconcerned about what this means in terms of karma, sin, or ethical behavior...

...even excess can be kept to a reasonable level...

We have a lot of those pens, too, and most of them don't work, even the ones that've never used. Yeah, they're that old.

Nice pics, especially that purple haze forest.

dipping into your train of thoughts will now have me wondering where pens come for a very long time...

your violet/magenta hued photo is beautiful - it glows. I feel sad that the version left in it's natural state now seems somehow dull in comparison, to me.

I like the transportation thing too... Generally, I've been walking and using public transport for about 5 years now... one thing that never leaves me, or very rarely, is my innate indolence ticking away and reminding me that a car would be far easier :)

I have always wanted to go to a silent retreat, but I'm afraid. I even took a vow of silence (to speak only when needed) and wrote a blog about it, but I didn't last 2 hours.

This person stole a pen from me a few months ago. I totally remember it because it was a nice pen and I liked it. I knew I shouldn't have let him use it.

But I'd let you use my pen. The guy who stole it is a Republican. I think that's what makes me so angry.

first, I love these photos dr jay...and well the pen thing? Perhaps you are just meant to have them...you are a writer after all...the universe is just giving you what you need when you need it.

Dazzling photography!

btw, do you name the pens that come to live with you, and if so, what are their pen names?

My aunt had a strange habit (conscious or not, I'll never know,) of stealing peoples' lighters. I went to her house once & she had 2 HUGE jars of lighters. It was absurd.
